okay i used the reboot time checker and it strangely gave me a result of -38148 seconds. I know for a fact that it didn't take it ten hours to start up but that's what it read. I'm going to try the memory test right now! Cheesy

Alright I downloaded the memory tester and created a disc for it. When my laptop starts the test it's only able to get to 46% before it just completely stops and goes straight to booting up windows. Did I do something wrong? I used the first file on the link I posted earlier. Hmm....

sounds like an issue with the ram as the test could not complete
did you get any error messages or messages saying there is a problem in a certain aria of the ram test or try it again and see what it ses to you

it sounds like you are going to have to replace the ram and bye a new stick

I would say at this stage as there was no complete of the test the the ram is at fault

try and run the test again

Hi there

Get the latest version, Memtest86+ here http://www.memtest.org/#downiso, make sure you download the zip file (second in the list), unzip it burn to disk.

Go into BIOS, choose BIOS Failsafe Defaults or Auto and disable USB Legacy support and try again.

Cheers,HTH,

I ran the memtest and it didn't find any errors. Is there anything I can do now to improve the performance of my laptop?

Take out the memory go to a shop and bye a new stick of ram 4GB or what your computer motherboard will go up to windows 7 needs about 4GB to run a full performance.

and upgrade the processer to a larger size.

that is the performace side of things but the first thing to do is change over the ram have you checked the CPU is running correctly I.E its performance and make sure the processer is ok

Hope this Helps

I guess the cpu is in fair condition. None of the tests have picked up on any hardware failure, but with a load time that long I'm starting to think they're might be something wrong with it. I've left the laptop on for extended periods of time while the computer ran demanding tests. Maybe it might have damaged the cpu with it being too hot. Is there anyway for me to check the cpu with software? Or should I just do a physical check?

XYY;
The CPU should not have any damage done to it though software if the fan is working correctly then the cpu should be fine it will not over heat if it has got the Thermal compound or heat sink compoound on it that is what protects the cpu you have the fan that keeps the cpu cool and so dose the heat sink compnad you could do a phisicle check on the Processer but should the fan be working correclly there will be no problem

Sounds like the ram is not enough what size is the ram that you have got in the computer at the moment?

The ram is strangely at 4 GB or 4096 MB to be exact. Doesn't seem like it's underpowered with the specs the laptop has.

Ok so what you could try is getting another ram stick the same replacing it witht he current one and then see if that changes the performance.

going into regedit will not help with startup only shutdown.

in tyhe recovery and startup it states 30sec bootup time that is the only other place other than cleaning up your prefetch folder doing it the way ticker said but it is defently statarting to sound like the ram now it is one of your options

Hi

Open the back flap that has the momory is in, remove one of the sticks of ram and run memtest86+
run for one to two passes if it comes up ok on the test remove it and put to one side and put the other stick of ram in its place
repeat the process if that stick shows up bad replace that stick if the ram is ok then your ram is all good.

Did what you said and ran two passes on each ram stick by itself and all the tests came out fine. So what do I do now?

Hit It With A Hamma Cheesy
but on a more Sirius note you could check in the registery that there is the Reg_dword Value Saying Start Up Delay
if this value is in the registry i could be set too high the value should be set a 4800 delay if it is set Higher then this could effect it. do a search to find the name it is all as one word so you will have to type it in the search box.

also get a copy of speedupmypc and run that it works a treat this will speed up the computer a lot.

also make sure the preftch folder can run and check that it is not tuned off in the registry I will post up the location later for you if this is off then the computer will be very slow which yours is

I LOLed at the hammer suggestion.

Just a couple quick questions:

1.  How do I check the registry?

and

2.  How do i check the preftch folder in the registry?

Sorry I'm still new at this stuff.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

Find a Value called EnablePrefetcher at default this should be set a 3 2 would be better and speed things up if this is a 0 then that is your problem

also try what I said in the last post and also follow ticker what he said to do in his post
http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/system-tweaks/a-batch-file-for-prefetch-optimisation/

this is very good and he is 100% Right

Also try my original Idia of speed up my pc

also check for startUpDelay Here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\ContentIndex

Hope this Helps
