I looked around for this on the site but couldn't find anything.  When starting up my Windows 7 64bit a black screen appears saying that there has been a "read error" and that I should hit ctrl-alt-delete to restart.  I have tried that a few times and the message comes up again on reboot.  I have also tried turning off the system and turning it back on again but the error message still appears.

Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?  TIA.

BTW, I am post right now off a Linux live disk.

Windows 7 64bit.
4G Ram.
I also have two drives in the system.

On Edit:

Ooops.  I did another search and found a reference to it.  It says that my hard drive might be going out.   Huh?  Does anyone have any other ideas?

 Azn
First I'd run chkdsk
Then while that's running I would go to the disk manufacturer's site and get their diagnostics utility,Follow steps below.

Run CHKDSK /R /P from the recovery console
Run the manufacturer's diagnostic utility, downloaded from their website
 Run FIXBOOT from recovery console
 Run FIXMBR from recovery console

let us know how you get on.
