Hi everyone my first post.

I just restored my Win7 box from a backup I had made a while ago..  It could have been better.

I booted to the windows restore CD I had made and clicked yes no next whatever until the restore started "Happy Days" as Brian would say  Smiley

I waited and waited, no it had crashed.

I booted with my install DVD and used Diskpart, clean, active, format etc.

Next try.. Crash again.

To cut a long story to a shorter one:

I was using AHCI disk access mode as I use a SSD to boot my system, and had done the backup in windows.

The restore CD did not like AHCI mode. after much mucking about I found this out just as a guess,  changed to NO AHCI and IDE mode and bingo away it went and restored perfectly.

The lesson is it can backup with AHCI in windows but not restore with the same BIOS settings  :Smiley

I do have an older 965P gigabyte motherboard socket 775 which may be a part of the problem I don't know.

Something to watch for.
