Hi guys, Can anybody help point me in the right direction for monitoring which users are currently logged onto my home wireless network and how much of the bandwidth they are currently using. The purpose is to identify which of the 5 users in my home is hogging all the bandwidth . Identification by computer name rather than ip or mac add is preferred. I have found a few programs that claim to do this but only offer extreme tech info that is to me useless. A simple clear representation by name of user and the amount of bandwidth being hogged will be suffice. Many thanks

You can usually see under your Router's settings page, which you can get to by finding the make and model of your router and googling it, it will probably be something like 192.168.0.1. Type that into your browser's address field and hit enter You might have a "Login" box pop up, if you do then get your router's default username and password from here: http://www.routerpasswords.com/ When you are in... There should be some sort of page called "WAN", "LAN" or "DHCP", check that page and it should have a list of all of the current connected computers, with names and I.P Addresses, and how much packets they have sent and received, the more packets they have sent /received, the more bandwidth they are using.

You could use something like this program. http://www.bwmonitor.com/Bandwidth Monitor 3.4 build 757 released!Bandwidth Monitor monitors bandwidth usages through computer it's installed on. The software displays real-time download and upload speeds in graphical and numerical forms (refer to screen shot below), logs bandwidth usages, and provides daily, weekly and monthly bandwidth usage reports. Bandwidth Monitor monitors all network connections on a computer, such as LAN network connection, Internet network connection, and VPN connection. Bandwidth Monitor also offers useful built-in utilities: speeds stopwatch, transfer rates recorder, and bandwidth usage notification. And, the software supports running as a system service that monitors bandwidth usages and generate traffic reports automatically without log on. Bandwidth Monitor works with the majority network connections including modem, ISDN, DSL, ADSL, cable modem, Ethernet cards, wireless, VPN, and more. It's full compatible with Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.How does Bandwidth Monitor Work? * Bandwidth Monitor detects network connections on computer it's installed on and monitors bandwidth through the connections * Display real-time download and upload speeds, and logs to history * You can view bandwidth usages reports by daily, weekly, monthly, and total in the software * The software notifies you to avoid going over bandwidth caps. Download: BandwidthMonitorHope this helps you out

Britec Thanks for your reply. This program would be fantastic if it showed all the users connected but unfortunately I think that it will only monitor the one computer that its installed on, whereas I would like to monitor all users on my network. Thanks anyway.
Mrlog101 Your advice has been very helpful. I only wish that there were some kind of application out there that would be able to pull this information from the router for me and present it in a user friendly form, similar to Britecs suggested app bwmonitor.

I appreciate your help Britec, but unfortunately the application you recommend only monitors one computer. It does monitor all connections as shown in your image but only those connections used on the one computer. It will not show info from any other computers sharing my wireless router. I guess my quest continues .

Hello again. Has anybody found any software that can monitor all users on a home wireless network? It seems to be a simple request but it is baffling most people .

I'm not happy with your insinuation that I could not be bothered to check out and install all the applications that you googled. I did install them and wasted a huge amount of time in doing so, as none of them are suitable.
If anybody out there has any actual knowledge of any applications that can simply focus on the names of users and current bandwith usage of those connected to my home wireless network router, then I would be most grateful. I am not focusing on getting lots of technical network data regarding all the connection on my computer, I simply want to focus on the OTHER users of my network, without having to install monitoring software on their computers.
The closest application I have found to suit my requirements is one called ZAMZOM but unfortunately it does not give bandwidth usage info.
Any help from anybody with specific hands on experience of such an application, that fully understands my request would be sincerely welcomed.
Many thanks...

Wire shark is the best one i know.... it acts like a firewall and monitors anything that goes through your network but you would need to spend about 10 mins of your time on the manual to understand the info infront of you. but on most net gear routers and other rotors there's an option to make rules and you can limate wireless speeds. to everyone. the good thing about this is you dnt need to be a techie to set it up u only have to remember 8 digits..
