hey there Britec.  Azn

im facing a problem.

as everytime i want to rename my mp3s on the detail pane
an error message will pop up saying.

"An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem.

Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error"

i've tried alot of ways to fix it, but still fail.

id be really grateful if this could be fixed a.s.a.p.
thank you in advance. ^^

Sounds like some sort of "permission denied", so when renaming the file you didn't have the permissions to do so. You would need to become "owner" or otherwise have such permissions. You can look at the properties of the directory to determine the owner and the security restrictions on it. Make sure that you are on the administrative account and the attributes are set right for that file.

1. You may want to try updating windows.

2. Try disabling User Account Control (UAC)

3. Also your Antivirus could be causing this issue, try booting into safe mode and then try renaming files.

4. Might be something to do with Regsvr32, try re-register DLL files
Very hard to tell without looking at the machine.

hope this helps you out.

thanks britec fer your help.
i've tried everything like reregistering DLLs, disabling UAC, uninstalling anti-virus, "booting into safe mode and then try renaming files" tried using UVK, SMARTv2, TweakNow Powerpack, QuickFix, CCleaner etc... to fix  but all seem not to be working at all.

i kinda regret fer installing SMARTv2 (pc was pretty slow, so i thought it might help to run abit faster but well it actually did but @damn this problem ) and did some tweaks 'cuz the problem occur ed after.

i swear im like half-crying now begging fer help (sounds pathetic but yeah, dammnn)

it is only happening to my mp3 files. (im a big music fan :( )

EDIT: and oh, "Make sure that you are on the administrative account and the attributes are set right for that file."
yeah, tried too.

that case i need to have the Windows Vista DVD amirite?
i don't have one, cuz its pre-installed.
EDIT: --
EDIT: i tried this way cmd -> run as administrator -> and i entered "regsvr32"

and
Run -> regsvr32

this box appeared.

"To register a module, you must provide a binary name.

Usage regsvr32 [/u] [/s] [/n] [/i: cmdline]] dllname ...."

btw not only my mp3 files are affected but the rest of the files too.

hmm, do you think it is possible to fix?

Have you tried using System Restore back to a time before you have this issue?

It maybe time to backup and reinstall the O/S because I can't do not more unless I am connected to your machine to remove them myself.
