All a x64 does is increases the bus size so it can allow more traffic to flow through opening the gateway to allow up to 8GB of RAM.  In some new motherboards it can handle up to 24GB of RAM.  Incredible right?  Even though x64 is much faster then a x86, a lot of programs can not run on a x64, most programs are made for x86.  But some new computers have a x86 emulation treating the x86 programs like x64 allowing them to be run on x64 machines.
