I have been working on my friends computer for a few hours tried a few trouble shooting ideas. Basically windows vista is saying that the battery is not detected which it is in.. I made sure that the AC was secured into the port.. Now i have taken the AC adapter out of the port to see if the battery would run. and its been about 30 minutes and its still running without the AC adapter so it is most def. takes the charge.

I could not find any Battery Utility tool for this computer to check.. But i'm sure the battery is good..

Is this just a common windows vista bug?? is there anything i can do to fix??

thanks for the help in advance. I've learned alot form this site, and it's the only fourm i go to for help.=)

EDIT: So after i figured the battery was keeping some kind of charge and was working, I restarted the computer and it booted fine, then i shut it down to turn it back on again and it would not turn back on.. Also i went to the bios and did some battery recalibration thing, and the bios showed there was no battery to test..

Vista Gateway m-6750 drivers
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=1015078R

1. You could try swap batteries to see if the problem follows the battery on that laptop. (if so.. problem would be battery related)

2. Try a Hard Reset

A. Push the power button until the laptop turns off completely. Wait for all lights to stop flashing.

B. Unplug the power cord and all peripherals connected to the machine. Exercising caution at this time prevents unexpected electric shocks on the user.

C. Turn the PC notebook over and disengage the battery cover in the back. A coin may be used to open the door.

D. Take out the battery pack. Lay it on a safe and clean surface.

E. Press the power button in the front again. Hold it for 60 seconds and release.

F. Install the battery pack back into the laptop and reconnect all cords.

G. Turn PC laptop around and power on. Check on the root of the problem if further operating system or application-related issues remain.

3. Check Power Management settings

4. Try Default BIOS settings

5. Try BIOS upgrade

6. Look for any updates or firmware updates

There are many possibilities...

1. The connection between your laptop and your battery could be loose
2. Battery is dead, change to another battery
3. You could have a defective battery
4. Check Gateway site to make sure battery's have not be recalled (because there defective)
5. make sure its the right battery for that laptop by checking model number
6. Is the battery a patterned battery? or is it from Gateway?
7. Charger component on the motherboard could of failed

hope this helps you out
