Hi there,
First of all you should try a System Restore (This is the easiest way to fix this problem). You can do this if you have a Vista installation or Recovery Disc. If you have such a CD then follow these steps:
1. Put the disc into the CD or DVD drive and restart the computer. (Make sure that the BIOS is set to boot from the CD/DVD drive first in the boot order).
2. Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD if asked.
3. Select your language preferences and click on Next.
4. Click on Repair your computer.
5. Select which operating system you want to restore and then click on Next. (If your OS is not listed here, or is blank, Click on Next anyway).
6. Click on the System Restore option.
7. Before clicking on Choose a different restore point, make sure 'Show Restore points older than 5 days'is ticked if available, so you can see your older restore points.Click Next.
8. Click 'Finish' to confirm the operation.
9. When completed click 'Yes' to restart your computer, after rebooting click the Close button.
All things being equal, this should fix your problem but if not or you do not have a recovery CD, post back with your outcome and we shall try other methods.
Here is a bit of information as to the usual causes of this problem.
This issue may occur if the user profile was manually deleted by using the command prompt or Windows Explorer by a user or by some program. A profile that is manually deleted does not remove the security identifier (SID) from the user profile list in the registry. Since the SID is still present, Vista will still try to load the profile by using the ProfileImagePath that points to a nonexistent path. Therefore, the profile cannot be loaded. 1. This can also be a issue with the user profile entering into a backup state. 2. Manually renaming the C:\Users\(User Name) folder
Cheers,HTH,
