Hi Bri, first of all love your work in youtube teaching guys how to fix their computers, its very informative and it helps us newbies understand and learn this things with computers. I would like to ask you about the problem of my computer, I have an HP pavillion dv3000  Windows Vista those 13.3" laptop and I bought it last Dec 2008 and everytime I start my computer it will say "WINDOWS LOADING" but it will not actually load eventhough i have to wait from 5-10 minutes so what I will do I press directly the power button and try to turn it off and restart again and when i restart it, it  will say "START WINDOWS NORMALLY" and I will select that but it won't load again so I will press again the power button and try to restart now when I restart it will give me this message WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY and it says Windows failed to start due to hardware failure this is not the exact word and there's an option "LAUNCH START-UP REPAIR" and it is recommended so I will select it and it will go to start-up repair and tried to search for problems and what will happen is it will ask you to repair doing system restore and I will select that it will attempt to repair but it say "STARTUP REPAIR CANNOT REPAIR THIS COMPUTER AUTOMATICALLY". I checked the Startup repair diagnosis and repair details and it says at session details
System Disk = \Device\Harddisk0
Windows directory = C:\WINDOWS
AutoChk Run = 0
Number of root causes = 1

Test performed
Name: Check for updates
Result: Completed successfully, Error code = 0x0

System disk test, disk failure diagnosis, disk metadata test till i reach fallback diagnosis and iil says error code = 0x0

but it also says

Root cause found:
Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x13
Time taken = 541713 ms

I also checked System recovery options and selected Startup repair but when I click it it says it did not detected problem and I tried system restore but the problem is there is no restore points created on my computer 's system disk so I cannot perform system restore. I selected Recovery manager and there is System recovery and it will reinstall the original facory shipped software which I did not continue because I am afraid that all my files will be removed before making the back-up files.

After all of this checking it will ask to shut down and I will start it will say configuring updates1 of 3 - 0% complete and it will stay there it will not actually update and I can open now my computer but the problem is when I am using my computer it will work only for maybe 10 minutes only and everything are not responding anymore  and it will totally hang till there will be no more option but to shut it down directly through the power button again and I will face the same problem again from WINDOWS LOADING not loading same all over again whenever I start my computer because I cannot open my computer if I will not go through "LAUNCH START-UP REPAIR",  I can only use my computer for a couple of minutes when I go through that LAUNCH STATUP REPAIR and it takes maybe 30 minutes to complete that repair.

I also tried safe mode but it will stop loading at \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys

It's my bad also that  I did not make any restore points for the system restore procedure and I know it will be a lot easier if I had done that, sorry. Please help me Bri what to do with my computer.

If you need some more information about my computer problem please ask me anytime.

Thanking you in advance and I hope you can help me.

Best regards,

Jonathan

Thanks Bradley

Before this problem happen I was only deleting the temporary files so that I can free up space on my computer but that's about it and when this thing happen my Kaspersky anti-virus said that the database was corrupted so I tried to repair it but my computer is hanging already and I cannot update my anti-virus. I got some important files in my computer which I already started to make a back-up and remove from my computer but my computer works only maybe 10-15 minutes because it will hang again so I have to copy it slowly. I did not make any hardware changes. My brother has an HP computer also but he has a broken charger it is not giving enough voltage which sometimes I am using, when I am using this charger it is not actually charging my battery but it is enough to maintain the same battery level and I can use my computer with this charger, do you think this cause my computer problem? Whenever I start my computer it will reach only at this Microsoft Corporation windows and it will be stuck there, I cannot use my computer without doing the launch startup repair but it will not repair also.

Thanks Brad for helping.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan thanks for your reply
It sounds like that the anti virus is a fault in this problem what you need to do is see if you can get into safemode.

you can do thing by starting your computer and repeatdiy pressing F8 key untill you see the boot options select safemode with command prompt and then let it run thought the scroll you might not be able to get in but if you can do the following.

goto your user and enter your password if you have one

then you should see a black screen with text waining for you to enter a command.

type in control then press enter

then click on programs and then select Kaspersky right click on Kaspersky and then select uninstall it is ok you can reinstall it later.

once you have uninstalled Kaspersky close control pannel and this brings you back to the black screen if the restart is not automatic

type
shutdown -r -t 0

this will then restart the computer staright away

once rebooted loeave the computer to go though the process and see if this fixes the problem.

do you have a warranty on the computer / Insuarance ?

do you need any further data off the computer ?

Have you got recovery disks for this machine ?

if you can not get into safemode don't worry there is more ways around the problem I am just finding out the options and crossing them off a list

Report back on anything that happens

Kind Regards

Bradley

Hi Brad,

Good evening, I believe I already reply to your suggestion but I dont know why it is not here. Anyway I tried your suggestion to start my computer in a safe mode with a command prompt but everytime i do that my computer will stop loading at \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys.

I tried safe mode and safe mode with network but it is the same.

I also suspected the same way that my anti-virus caused the problem so what I did is I tried to repair it and after a couple of shutdowns I finished it but I still nedd to update my anti-virus database but the problem is my computer will stop working or hang after 15 minutes so I couldnt update my computer so it still have the same problem.

I dont have insurance for my computer and my warranty was already expired since I bought my computer last December 2008.

I still have some files inside my computer but I tried to copy it and remove it from my computer.

About the recovery disks I'm really sorry but I did not take the recovery disks for my computer, sorry.

I hope that you still have some more suggestions and ways to repair my computer.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

What was you doing on the computer when this happened? having no restore point does not help you at all really.
unless you know what you was doing and what happened it could be a tricky one to fix

I did a search on \windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys and there were a lot of different problems/solutions on it

alot point to rootkits, so it might be worth running a scan with a rootkit scanner.
some say backup and do a fresh install
some say disable wireless card
some say hard drive issue
etc etc the list goes on and on.

sounds like a Corrupt Driver or Corrupt System File issue to me or Windows Update issue, this could of been downloaded in background and installed and currupted your system example SP1
There is this fix that looks like it could be to do with your problem (link below)
