Hello.
I got a problem with starting my partition "F:\" since I got my windows update on the 10./and or 11. of June 2010.
I got Vista Home Premium. and three partitions: C, D and F. F is for Data.
I am now writing from my other drive. I was happy that at least my datas were saved at "F" but I just can't open F.
it says:
"NLS-data damaged or corrupted. STATUS: 0xc000000f"

I have tried your tutorial

but it did only work to the point with the 3 partitions.
do I need to write F instead of C?

Maybe I need to do something else?

please help.

Information: NLS Files = Multiple Language Resource Files. Character Translation; National Language Services driver (font or font map).
NLS files. Delete any one of these you're not supposed to and your system may not restart.

Lets try some of these below

Method 1: Use the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to run System Restore
============================================
1. Instert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and
then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD
or DVD ¡*". appears.
3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method,
and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your
Windows installation and click Next
6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on System Restore.
7. Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction as usual and choose the
appropriate restore point.
8. Click Finish to restore the system.
============================================
Method 2: Use the Windows System File Checker

To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

Click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, right click on the Command Prompt option, then click on the Run as Administrator option.

Note: If you haven’t disabled the User Account Control, you will be asked for permission first...just continue on.

In the Command Prompt window, type: "sfc /scannow" then press enter.

The scan may take some time (usually 5-15 minutes) and Windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files...once complete type "exit" and press enter, then restart the notebook or computer.
============================================
Method 3: Expand the nls files into C:\WINDOWS\system32\

Follow step in Method 1 to log into the recovery console and then login as administrator account.
At the command prompt type the following:

Example:
EXPAND D:\I386\c_437.nl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls

Once the system is done expanding the file, reboot your PC.

You can make a .BAT file to install all nls files in one go

Example:

expand D:\i386\C_1047.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1047.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1140.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1140.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1141.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1141.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1142.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1142.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1143.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1143.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1144.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1144.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1145.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1145.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1146.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1146.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1147.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1147.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1148.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1148.nls
expand D:\i386\C_1149.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_1149.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20273.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20273.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20277.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20277.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20278.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20278.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20280.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20280.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20284.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20284.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20285.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20285.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20297.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20297.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20420.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20420.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20423.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20423.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20424.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20424.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20838.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20838.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20871.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20871.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20880.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20880.nls
expand D:\i386\C_20924.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_20924.nls
expand D:\i386\C_21025.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_21025.nls
expand D:\i386\C_858.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_858.nls
expand D:\i386\C_870.nl_ c:\windows\system32\c_870.nls
============================================
Method 4: Copy the nls files into C:\WINDOWS\system32\

Got another computer with Vista?, copy files from that computer all
the *.nls files in /Windows/System32 and all the *.fon files from
Windows/Fonts. then put them on a USB memory stick, and inserted that into
the broken machine.

The Boot to WindowsRE you should see your USB drive with your files on it. then copy all the files, overwrite the files on the damaged box with those from the
working computer, and hopefuly reboot straight into Vista.
============================================

Give these a go and let me know what happens

Mani;
First thing do what Brian Said to do.
I have read your message for help on this problem it seems that everybody is having this problem from this micorosft update.

I have been doing a lot of rsearch this morning on this problem and a lot are saying if you go into command prompt

Change Directory to F:

as you are saying F:\ is the bad volume

then type the following command

chkdsk /f /x

then enter

this will then repair the following volume and replace any bad sectors and recover the data

However they then said that it sates it is repaird when it is not and to then copy the files across like brian said and then people have said this has fixed the problem that Microsoft have greated to hundreds of computers.

However you will get the support from us to fix it.

if you are needing to get the data off before you start use Knoppiex 6.2

burn knoppix to a cd and run the program knoppix will access the drive and you can save the data to a pen drive you need a iso burner and to download the iso file from
Download From Here: http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/
File to download in list : KNOPPIX_V6.2.1CD-2010-01-31-EN.iso

Once you have burned the iso file to a cd using an iso burner then boot the cd at startup you can do this by turning on the computer rapidy hitting F12 and select CD/DVD player knoppix will then load so you can get you data off F:\

knoppix runs as startup and then access your hard drive so no services are started that is why it is able to get the data off save the data to a usb stick

you will find this in knoppix by click home and then selecting the partion there will be loads you can also access C:\

as well in knoppix it is a great rescue resource and it is free and well worth using

Burn this to cd and you will be able to enter F:\ and get the data off it is advised that you
do this before you take any action to do chkdsk.

once the data is off the computer restart the computer and then run though what brian and I suggested

I am sorry you are having this problem but we will get it sorted out as soon as possible

Please leave feeback how you get on

I tried method 1 and 2 but I think it didn'T work cause I need a particular plan for partition "F:/".

and for the Knoppiex 6.2. Do I need a ISO burner only. Or can I burn this cd with a normal cd burner?
I have no clue with Iso.

and if knoppix shouldn't work, can I copy all my files from F: to C: ?

Britec; sorry that I didn't understand everything on method 3 where you say I should expand things. Do I need to write F: again instead of EXPAND D:\I386\c_437.nl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls ?

How do I know which nls. are missing?
I don't have another PC with Vista, just other partitions. Does this count too? I just saw that I must register the Vista extra on my other partition before it runs out.

Thanks for the reply now I now where you are at you need to burn the iso file using a iso burning tool it will not work just burning it to cd as long as you have a nornal cd burner you can do it all you do is google free iso burner and select the top option on google download the iso burner then burn the iso to cd using there tool did you download the iso file to cd so you could burn it it takes about an hour to download.

the options will work just read again what we said and you will be fine.

Hope This Helps

I tried Method 4 but I copied the .NLS files from my C:/ to the F:/ partition. It worked!
I skipped the ISO burn method though. When I first checked my C: I saw that I have to registry Vista extra although I have registered Vista already on my F:/ 3 years ago.
That means I have to do a extra registry even though I already have one?

If there is anything I should've done please tell me, but so far all my programs and documents on my F partition are working.

Is there any way to start always with F: instead of getting the black boot monitor when I start?

Thank you Britec and BJseal91.

Your welcome glad you got it fixed, now you can backup all your data, I would then consider a fresh clean install.
