System recovery from DVD
«

Hi there to all,
I need to recover a Vista OS on a Tosh laptop using the the recovery DVD created on the Tosh when system was new, however I have a dilemma in that the DVD hardware on this machine is very flaky in its operation, sometimes reads the disk sometimes not. so what I would like an answer to if possible is this:
Can I slave the HDD on another machine and use the created DVD to recover the system to the now slaved drive?
Any help or information on any other method is greatly appreciated.

HI Ticker ;
you can take out the hard drive and put it in another machine but you would have to set it to the master hard drive
in the other machine in order to format the drive and reinstall the o/s however speaking from experience with toshiba computers you would have to put the hard drive into another toshiba in order for the cd to work e.g you would need toshiba with toshiba to run the disk otherwise it states this computer is not a toshiba it is to do the the motherboard and bios but this can be done easey or you would need to replace the cd rom drive with one that is working in order for reduced problems that would be the ideal situation hope this helps

Hi Bradley,
Thanks for your response,
The Toshiba that needs the repair is the L350 model laptop and the DVD drive is to be replaced later, so that option is a non-starter, the owner wants to see it operating first. Fortunately, I happen to have a Toshiba P200 laptop with which I can do the required recoverey install.
So thanks again for the heads up Bradley, much appreciated.
