When booting a Windows Vista system there is just a black screen. It does not even get to the BIOS screen. Also, the only way to turn it off is to hold down the power key, so it seems that the OS is hanging up. I have also attempted to boot off the DVD/CD drive and still it won't boot. Now, I did attempt to run a System Repair due to previous boot problems and that is when the problems worsened.
ETA:
It is a Toshiba Sattelite PSLC8U-037012.
ETA:
Fixed it.

Hi there,
there are Diferent Causes for this Problem,
1 . Check your graphics card,
2. Check memory (you can remove the memory clean them and put them back)
if still cant see anything try removin the battery off from the Motherboard sometimes a wrong configuration can cause system to stop booting
hope i could help

If you do leave the battery off for a few mins so that there is a full discharge of power from the computer, then when putting it back on should be fine.
I take it when booting all that you are getting is a black screen with a solid cursor in the top left corner.
