For some reason, by default, my computer wants to open my excel files in notepad. The only successful way I can view them properly is by right clicking them and a choosing "open with." Any thoughts, Ideas, Fixes?

Hi there,

Just for information, as you have probably fixed it by now with Brian's suggestion, but to make the extension change permanent for those who may not know, here is how to do it.
It differs from XP to VISTA & WIN 7.

In XP you do:

WINDOWS EXPLORER>TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>FILE TYPES>Select extension to change>CHANGE>Select program to change the default to or browse for it>Tick the ALWAYS USE BOX>OK.

This method disappeared with XP so in VISTA & WIN 7 you do:

START>CONTROL PANEL>DEFAULT PROGRAMS>Associate a file type or protocol with a program>Scroll to and select the extension you want to change>CHANGE PROGRAM>Select from Recommended Programs or Other Programs or Browse>OK

Cheers, HTH,
