 Azn pizzaboy

sorry for delay in replying.

just go a head and install xp, if it lets you install your good to go...but if you get message and wont let you install then your need to slipstream drivers in cd etc etc.

I'm pretty sure if your wanting to have 2 "windows" operating systems you can keep select between the two. As long as you partition and format the drive correctly.. putting 250g, on xp, and 250 on 7.

ok...there is a problem loading earlier versions of windows onto pre installed later versions....
im managed to retreive my orignal windows 7 install just by putting in a windows 7 repair disk and rewriting the bootloader...

if you are going to try this which i believe many people will...here is a guide i follwed..

http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm?page=1

it worked perfectly on windows 7 and windows vista....

Hi there,

Have a look at this tutorial: http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/tutorials-and-how-to/install-xp-on-preloaded-windows-7-system/msg3965/#msg3965

It may be what you require, if you have any problems/questions regarding drivers etc, post them up.

Cheers,HTH,

ok i spoke to soon....i got as far as when xp says set up is starting windows (the part where you would tell xp where you would like it to install itself)
and the blue screen of death appears....

now imassumming its something to do with the driver perhaps needed to identify the hardrive...

in the bios there is a section where you can switch between IDE MODE  and ACHi or something like that (im sure you no what i mean)

now ive heard to get xp to install this has to be set to IDE MODE.....

now by default it is set to AHCI MODE...if i switch this over windows 7 will not boot...but i am sure that windows xp will....

how can i sort this issuse out.....i cant be exspected everytime i boot the pc to enter bios and switch between the two different modes...

unless the problem is something else and i ve missed it...or do i need a sperate driver to load xp...help asap

what if it doesnt work...what then are my options of running two operating systems

just for good measure..shall i make a system image back up file using windows 7 built in feature..incast it goes wrong....

does the system image feature back up everything....so i if i use the saved file it will restore back to the way it is now including all docs, pics etc....
