ok booted up a laptop in the office....and realised the reason why its been sat in a corner is because it has a problem

problem is when you start up and it comes to the screen where it displays windows xp with the bar underneath with the blue light that goes round and round before it eventually boots into windows..well mine is stuck in a loop..goes round and round and round but does nothing..any suggestions...

i was thinking this..i have important data so i cant afford to loose it..
i was thinking would it be possible to press R option on the xp disk .......and trying some  of the repair options..
i can rewrite the MBR from there etc...
or do a chkdsk........

what do you think...or could it make the situation worse.....

thanks for your help....that program you mentioned..ubcd4win.....that looks amazing..
am i right in thinking that you burn the downloaded ISO to disk....it then becomes a bootable disk which you can boot from cd before windows boots...
from there you can select a listed programs from here http://www.ubcd4win.com/contents.htm which i assume there will be a back up program of some descrption.....
