My computer is switching itself off every few minutes (sometimes more often/less) for no explantion...It's mainly when on internet. It just says "preparing to standby" then is off in seconds. It sometimes turns itself back on right away...if not I switch it on and it goes right to click user name and back to where it went off straight away. I have system restored/run malware/virus checks and results ok...
I use firefox browser and for some reason the firefox help page keeps appearing when I haven't even clicked for it...
It is a Packard Bell (about 6 year old now but been very trusty) Model Type ALT QUA    Model-MEDIA 3064..sorry don't know if that helps....I have 60gb used from 70gb capacity (recently added data seems to have slowed my comp but was running fine for some time)
I am complete novice at computer problems but appreciate any help/advice given.
Kind Regards
Eddie
P.S   my computer has turned itself off twice while typing this.....  `

Azn first check your Power Options

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options

 Azn eddie59lee

welcome to the forum

6 year old computer says it all really, start by testing PSU (power supply) then run some test on the Ran (Memory).
it could also be motherboard failure.

Maybe time to treat yourself to a new computer.

Hi, thanx for the reply guys.
I followed through your advice to power options...for some unknown reason to me, the turn off monitor was set to 20 mins...hard-drive and standby set as never....have not a clue how this happened and feel a little daft especially with some of the major problems posted here...Power options was something I had never even seen before as so basic is my computer knowledge. I am learning a lot through your brilliant channel and forum and so very much appreciate your help and advice......
I have a new laptop I use for work but not the internet, you're right though, think it's time to upgrade the home comp..
Kind Regards
Eddie
