So, I got this error(the one in the topic name) following a virus(the virus somehow wrecked my sound driver, and I thought restarting would help). I used ERD Commander to get into the computer, and used the system restore tool to rollback the error. I followed Britec's video:
Restore the Registry Hives From a System Restore Snapshot by Britec

My only issue after doing this was that before I press "Finish" the CD wouldn't eject. So, I just press finish and restarted before ejecting the CD. Now, when the computer restarted it said that the last time windows started up, there was an error, and it asked which version I wanted to start windows in. I picked "Start Windows Normally". Then, everytime the windows loading screen came up, the computer restarted automatically. So, I went and undid the system restore. It's still happening.

I think it might have to do with me not taking out the CD after finishing the system restore, but it's not possible.

Please help me out.

Welcome
are you able to get to safe mode

Restart Computer

Keep taping F8 Key until you see a menu

Select safe Mode With Command Prompt

Hit Enter

Once loaded log on to your user account or an administrator account

once the account has loaded you will see a black window with a flashing cursor waiting for a command input

type the following

Start sysdm.cpl

press enter

once your computer has loaded system properties select the tab Advanced

now select the the button what states start up and recovery

in the system failure section unchecked the box that states automatically restart

click OK

Apply

OK

Type the following command

Shutdown -r -t 0

Press Enter

See if the computer start normally without rebooting

if you are unable to get to safe mode let us know and we will move on to the next best thing to do

Hope this is of some help to you

Kind Regards

Bradley

Safe mode was the first thing I tried, and no it didn't work. Unless, I can get into safe mode using ERD Commander? I don't know, though.

I'm not getting an actual error screen, it's just restarts after the windows loading screen. I think I have the installation disk, but I'm not sure if it's the same one I used to install windows. I have Windows XP professional, and this one could be home edition.

No, I haven't backed anything up. I can do this using ERD? Can you give me a small tutorial on how to do so?

No, I do not have a pend drive. I'm going to try this solution for now, hopefully it will work. The guy seems to fit the symptoms of my error, so.

Sorry for the double post, but no luck with the solution I tried on that website. I couldn't find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Intelppm4" All I got to was Services. What about the Crash Analyzer on ERD Commander? It asks for the directory of the microsoft debugging tool for windows. Can you help me with that?

Super edit: http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/installed-sp3-pc-keeps-restarting/170954.html

That guy used system restore to rollback. Could I not just do the same thing? I could rollback the computer a few days before the error happened. I wouldn't lose anything too important.

You can but it is advised that you back up first or expect to loose data the more you do the worse things can get.

that said you have already tried to go back once before and then that was when you got this problem also you are not able to go into safe mode Huh?
