Hi guys, I was watching the YouTube video posted by Britec09 on how to fix the missing or corrupted hal.dll file, and followed all the steps of the first method. After doing this I rebooted the PC and it still came up with the same hal.dll message.

I have windows XP if that helps any. I know this is a well known error, and i'm sure the mods here are getting tired of answering the same question all the time....but any help is appreciated.

Kind regards, Jimmy.

Thank you for the quick reply. I tried to follow the steps on repairing the installation, but I am not given the option to repair, only to delete or install a new one. Am I doing something wrong?

Regards, Jimmy.

I think I found a problem.

After accepting the licence agreement, on the screen where you're supposed to select an installation to repair, my computer doesn't even say "If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, setup can try to repair it", nor do I have the option of pressing r to repair. I just get a list of 3 different partitions and it asks me if I want to delete them or install a new one.

Why aren't I getting the same screen as the tutorial? I have followed it EXACTLY and I have done so at least 4 times.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Regards, Jimmy.

Does anyone know what I can do? I really don't want to have to pay some guy $50 just to say "Oh look all you have to do is this" :(

 Azn Jimmy

You could try a rollback to a time when the system was working ok.

You will need ERD Commander for XP

I just went to try and download that trial version of MSDART, but the link is down. Is there any other way I can get it?

I dont know of any links, you could use a live cd and repair it that way...puppy linux is small.
I got to go out now when i come back i will help you.

Just incase you cant wait here is a way to fix it...you can use puppy linux as live cd or xp live cd off the forum.
