First off, I would like to thank Britec for setting up this brilliant forum.

This is my first post, I looked to see if the answer to my problem was listed but couldn’t see it , but apologies if the answer is here someware.

The main problem started with a Stop C0000218 registry file failure, which I manage to get sorted thanks to the God  Brian of Britec and his YouTube video.

Before I found the video I tried to use my system restore disc but found it didn’t have a press ‘R’ recovery consol and finished loading one if not two more versions of windows xp professional on to the same partition. It would be helpful to know how to get rid of the second operating system.
I also notice now, which I should imagine is related to the multiple operating systems, that I now have three windows folders, Windows, Windows.0 and Windows.1, the Windows folder seems to be the main one as it contains a lot more information . Can and how can the other two Windows folders be remover safely or should I leave them if they are doing no harm,

Thanks for your help in advance o wise ones.

FOXY.

Welcome to the forum

Sample Boot.ini File

This is a sample of a default Boot.ini file from a Windows XP Professional computer.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Your need to edit the boot.ini file and make it look something like this above.

As for the extra windows folder, these will not be in use so you can just delete the ones you dont want. (you will need to keep C:\WINDOWS)

Important: make sure you backup files that you want before you delete the folders
