For starters this is what i'm working with.
Dell dimension 9100
XP pro SP2
Bios A03
P4 3GHz
800 MHz Bus
2 MB L2 cache
Hyperthreading -Yes
64-bit - yes (intel EM64T)

4X 1064 RAM
533 MHz
DDR2 SDRAM

SATA Operation: RAID autodetect/ AHCI
2X 160GB SATA western Digital
Raid 0

Upon startup I get the message: windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:  SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ISAPNP.SYS
I tried using the info from other postings w/ same  issue, however after pressing R to start the recovery console another message states: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
After checking hard drives found no issues.
Cannot start in safe mode either.

Issue started after no changes in hardware or software, w/ the exception of MS auto updates.

"Learning as I go"
Thanks (in advance) for any help!

 Azn jocers1,

From your description it seems obvious that one of you updates may have caused your problem. However, just follow the tutorial on the forum here:

http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/tutorials-and-how-to/how-to-fix-system32driversisapnp-sys/msg3609/#msg3609

and you should be good to go.

Tip: Although MS Auto Updates is no bad thing, you must remember that all systems are set up differently and sometimes a particular update can cause problems for you, as you have now discovered, but if you have downloaded and installed a bunch of updates using Auto update and then start getting errors you will not know which one caused it. I always have MS set to inform me of new updates/patches etc and then do a custom install of  each one, rebooting each time, so if I get a problem I know immediately which update caused it and can fix it right away. If you are up to date with your updates this is not a difficult task and is better than ending up with a problem like you now have.

Cheers,HTH,

ticker

Thanks Mr.T. However when I open the recovery console I get the error message: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
and no prompt. Just the option to close recovery.
