Azn im rob and it my first post here my problem is this. When i try to copy data from usb sticks. I don't think data size is the issue as iv had it happen on 250mb? iv tryed reinstalling usb drivers by uninstalling then restarting pc. did nothing to stop it? what is doing my head in is the randomness of this problem sometime copy with no problems then other times just freeze the pc. I have to use shut down and restart? iv tryed all usb slots the front of the case plus back of mob no luck.  its though the copying process that it just hangs and freezes the pc randomly? i have started to use tera copy but still freezes up? no other problems with the pc.

iv used blue screen viewer and its telling me that it is this driver 'hal.dll' plus also 'hal.dll+5bfb' the crash address 'ntoskrnl.exe+22f43' this only happen when copying from usb? whats the best action to take?

Hi there ozzie,

BlueScreenView is the utility you need, available for free here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

I had a quick look at that via a search and it dont look anything like the screen shot in sasrob's post which i like the look off...i have downloaded it and will give it a whizz later when i finished doing my site  Wink

thanks

( will also try a few of the win7 forums as they sometimes release  home made versions of things,as i dont like the look of that nirsoft stuff it just like built in windows event viewer in my eyes)

Hi,

Try taking a longer look then ozzie, because BlueScreenView is the utility you need to view the image that you prefer, the same one in the link that was posted up by sasrob in his post.

Quite simple really, just get Bluescreenview up, Click File (top left), click Properties and bingo, there you have it right before your eyes.

Hi ozzie

You might like to create your own Test BSOD, have a look at my tutorial here. you might find it useful and it is quite safe to use.

getting back to the original question !you say it does not happen all the time..it could be down to the usb stick.. i always use this program to format all my sticks before i use them as i have had problems in the past with transfer's they dont all come with the same format I.E some have fat32 others have ntfs..i usually do all mine in fat32 as this works well on all OS's

iv tryed many usb sticks all set to FAT32 i know there is a 4GB limit but sometime im only coping small files and windows just freeze?
iv looked at free space on HDD,virtual memory also my RAM all passed. i do play online games and i get no problems there?  im half and half about trying to overwrite my hal.dll file but i cant see why a boot file would crash my system when i try to use USB?
