Does your system have the Recovery Console installed as a boot option?

if not then you are going to need either a XP installation CD or a copy of the Recovery Console on bootable CD to fix your issue.
here is a direct download link of an IOS image file of the Recovery Console
http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso
Use it to make a bootable CD See here how to use ISO files, Use IMGBurn to burn the ISO image to dics Wink

Boot your PC from this disc and access the Recover Console

Then you will need to follow the Manual Steps here to fix your issue. about half way down the page.

At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line:
md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
delete c:\windows\system32\config\software

what does it mean with copy and delete?Huh?
and thank your for your reply
P.S. and mine does not have Recovery Console installed

.

You type the word copy - delete as you do the rest of the line of command, pressing enter key after each line to carry out the command. remember to put in the spaces.

good luck
