Hi,

i came to these forums as i have seen a few videos on youtube and I'm very impressed with the help that not only britec offers, but also from the people in these amazing forums!

I have 2 old pc's that ive found in my house. The first one is an old compaq presario, (motherboard is dead) the other is a hp machine which is slighty newer than the compaq.
neither have a HD in them, and basically i want to revive both of these machines so i can re-use the keys that they have on their case.

I know if i try any old windows xp home edition oem disc that it wont work, so i need some help (re)activating the current product keys on the machines.

I have heard of editing the OEMBIOS on the disc prior to install but im not sure if this is the only way or even the right way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Welcome to the forum

Here is a list of Known Windows XP SP2 CD Labels

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=342

This will tell you what version them lables belong to. Then all you need to do is install Windows with the right Windows version and use that key.

Note: If you try to activate it and activation failed then contact Microsoft support for phone activation. In OEM license it might be some restriction but in FPP it will work fine.

Thanks for your reply.

1 product key reads:

WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION NEC

the other..

WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION HP

I'm just a little confused of what to do, i already have a genuine xp home edition disc, do i remake the disc and change the volume label to the ones on that website?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Thanks

Ive gathered that both machines are OEM, my question is:

Do i now create a windows xp home edition disc and change the volume label name to suit the manufacturer (ie. HP/ Compaq)

if not, How do i go about doing this?

sorry for the confusion.

Regards,

You use a Windows XP OEM Disc and install Windows in the normal way and then use the key on the lable.
