Hi bonie001,
you could try this  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/rem...my-security-shield. It seems you could have  picked up malware.  Download their program, clear the malware and reinstalled host file exactly as they directed. See how you go. Good luck.

Take care

Hi bonie001,
great be positive we seem to be getting some where, maybe next thing is a repair install of Windows, but however please just wait for a more senior member to contact you as I would hate to mess you around and tell you the wrong thing. Hang in there I'm sure your not far off having a win here with this.

 Azn bonie001

Lets see where we are at on this problem.

1. Have you tried last known good configuration?

2. Did you try what I posted above?

3. Your options are not great because you have no Windows CD and No Recovery CD.

4. Your going to need to look at the mini dump files to see what is causing this error, you can do this by using a Windows Live CD or by removing the drive and putting it it in another computer as a slave. (Then using a program called bluescreeview to view the dump file)

5. Another thing you can check is your Memory you can do this using UBCD or Memtest86+

6. Other things to try are uninstalling graphics driver and try rolling back using ERD Commander, also check your boot log.

7. If you think its Malware related then your need to use a bootable rescue cd like dannyjks suggested to clean system enough so that it can boot.

 Azn Bonnie001, Britec, dannyjks,
I know this is an old post and someone may like to redirect it but I have just had the same problem :

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc06d007e (0×00000000 0×00000000).
The system has been shut down.

Background : Client got hit with a phone call from our friends in Pakistan offering to fix the PC when the client declined the offer problems started, they did all sorts uninstalling AVG installing other virus checking software until it just blue screened with the above message.

I downloaded and updated  DR web and it found things and rebooted no joy the blue screen came back. Tried to run MS dart it could not work as it could not find the OS the problem was I needed to go to bios and switched  raid to compatibility - by the way the hard drive was a sata and the PC a DELL Dimension 9150 just for your interest.

After making those changes the MSDart cd found Windows XP ( By the way the os I was working on was Windows media centre 2005 ) and I tried to do a system restore it found loads of restore points but when I clicked it did nothing. I did files repair it found corrupted explorer.exe claimed to have fixed it but on reboot same blue screen.

Moving on and research on the net I cloned the hard drive so I had a backup then started work on the clone, fitted the broken hard drive into a working XP PC and then renamed the following files :

csrss.exe > changed to csrss.exeold

winlogon.exe > winnlogon.exeold

win32k.sys > win32k.sysold

Then from good PC replaced the above with good clean copies. Shutdown.

Placed the clone hard drive with the changed files mentioned above back in to original PC and everything works fine. I hope this will help others in the same situation the fact this worked for me will not mean it will work for you as it could be hardware including ram the had drive itself BUT it is a great place to start good luck it came a little late for Bonnie001 but I just wanted to share what I have found and done to fix my problem.

Also with portable cd  installed Malwarebytes and updated ran it and it found 200 or so infections all sorts of rogue security programs etc, next all the usual virus checking & one last thing make a new restore point turn off and then on the system restore after your virus and malware checking has come up clean you don't want to reinfect yourself by restoring stuff in the restore folder, everything is good now

take care

tmy

 Azn Bradley,
Laugh thank you for your kind words I just try to help out when I can, my attitude is I have learnt the hard way by making mistakes and research and trial and error it can be painful so I just like to save a person going through all that. On the other hand a person can become lazy and become reliant on help from others before trying to take a step back and work out the problem. Also a lot of people don't want to spend hours on forums and endless research because they would not know a piece of good advice from dross that only comes from experience.

This is a great place as it keeps everyone on their toes with the latest problems and advice from a huge pool of experience and knowledge, everyone has a part to play and we can all learn something no matter how small.

Take care Bradley & thank you again for your help and advice over the time I have been on this forum, best of luck next week you can do it               Wink
