Azn My laptop has recently has got the log on, log off loop.
I watch and followed the youtube video by britec

I took my hard drive out and linked it to my other laptop via a usb converter and ran the malwarebytes, reinstalled but it is still in the loop.

Is there any other antiviruses to try for this?

I also tried to go through the recovery screen but it seems I have lost my admin password to.

I am a new to all this, so please keep it dumb ass friendly  Wink

Cheers

Hi Dave

Virut is a real hard patching virus to remove, did you follow every step in the video?

Try this

1. Using Windows XP CD Boot to the Repair Mode.
2. In Command Prompt
a) Expand the “userinit.ex_” which will be under the x:\i386 to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe. by giving the following command;

expand x:\i386\userinit.ex_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe
b) reboot the computer.

x is the letter of your cd drive

If you have any trouble change directory to C:\WINDOWS\system32\
and type expand x:\i386\userinit.ex_ remember to change x for your cd rom driver letter. you can use the map command to find out cd rom drive letter.

System sound now boot up...make sure you run malwarebytes and superantispyware

at C:\WINDOWS> type: cd system32
this will put you in C:\WINDOWS\system32>

make sure windows cd in in cd rom drive and type

expand x:\i386\userinit.ex_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

Make sure you change x to your cd rom drive letter.

Hi there,

The short answer to your question is that you don't change the drive letter to 'X'.

What you do is replace 'X' in the example Brian gave you with the drive letter of your CD/DVD drive.

If you do not know this, then type MAP at the command prompt whilst you are in the Recovery Console and this will show you what your CD/DVD drive letter is.

It will look something like this:

 C:\WINDOWS>map

 C: NTFS 120254MB \Device\Harddisk0\Partition.

D: \Device\CdRom0 .  This is what you are looking for
