Dell Dimension 4700
3.2 GHz processor
512 MB RAM
Windows XP Media Center Edition
     Version 2002
     Service Pack 2
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network

Using the instructions at

http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/windows-xp-support/windows-xp-live-cd

I was able to create the  bootable USB Flash Drive with XP installed . It booted up nicely with a beautiful picture of an island.
I need some guidance on how to get the internet connection working using the above referenced computer.

When I open PE Network Manager 0.45 I get the message:

"Cause there were no network cards detected the program is running only in simple mode"

All help appreciated.

Gary

I think so. I mean in the router it appears to be set to on. I can't find anyplace to adjust DHCP settings in the USB  XP.  Do I need to enter the product key for my Windows XP version somewhere in order to get things rolling? I went into the Device manager of my normal hard drive XP and found the driver for my network listed as e100b325.sys. It was a newer version so I replaced the same file on the USB drive, but it made no difference. When I try to use Driver Import PE to install  e100b325.sys I get a message that there is no operating system, and that I should use the interactive mode.

I think I'll pop a beer open and stare at that picture of the island. Beautiful.

Any ideas appreciated.

I downloaded it again and started over. I formatted  the 4 GB Sandisk as NTFS and then I used Grub4Dos to do the MBR thing. I extracted the two downloaded files using 7-zip and then I joined them into the LiveCD iso. After that I extracted the files from the LiveCD iso to the USB Drive. It boots up nicely, and everything seems to be working except the network. The PE Network still says it is in simple mode because it doesn't recognize any network card. I have a DSL connection and my computer's ethernet port is connected to a router. Is there some setting that I need to adjust?

I haven't changed anything in my router yet, but from what I can see it is already set to DHCP.

I kind of got it working.
I went to http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/latest , and I downloaded the LAN file for XP. I created a drivers folder in C:/ on the flash drive (drive is showing C:/and X:/) and I put the LAN file in there. After I booted up the flash drive I went to the PE Import tool and designated the LAN file and it found the proper driver (Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network). I clicked on import and I was able to connect to the internet using Opera. Great!

Upon reboot I had to it all over again since I couldn't figure out how to save the network  configuration.
Is it possible that the LAN driver was already on the original build, but there is something about the way I put it all together that makes it inaccessible?

I wasn't as successful with the sound file or mass storage, but I'm thinking I need to assemble the iso differently or change some properties somewhere.

All advice appreciated.

You might be better to build your own live cd using winbuilder, its real easy...that way you can add your own apps
