Error 1603

Hi All,
I've tried to install/reinstall Java 8 v51 on my system.
My OS is Widows 7 Ultimate X64.
For some reason the install fails and I get the error message
that installation failed to complete Error 1603.
I looked it up and the information I get means nothing to me.
I have installed Java by the offline method and it shows up in the
Programs folder in the Control Panel. When I try to reinstall Java I get the error message.
This problem is having an effect on my ability to download software from a site
which tells me a Java plugin is missing and so I can't download stuff from this site.
Does this scenario ring any bells with anyone out there?

Uninstall java using geek uninstaller geek uninstaller

then reinstall java make sure all running programs are close
