Harddrive disabled in BIOS, whats its power draw, if any?
#1
HI

I have a 3 DD in my DELL desktop PC.
One is just used for  a monthly backup and that's it
So I disabled it in BIOS until its needed.

Does this HDD still draw power , I know BIOS checks it at Boot up as part  of POST
but after that It is sitting there drawing watts or is it OFF OFF.
I know an idle HDD still can draw watts 6-12 depending on specs.

If a HDD is disabled in BIOS is it OFF or idle.

Thanks

To add to Compton, the power draw would be very minimal.

This is a way to turn it off without having to go into BIOS

Go To:
- Control Panel/ Power Options
- Click on "Choose when to turn off the display"
- Then click on the link "Change advanced power settings"
You will come to this window....

With this option checked "1", your Hard Drives will turn off one minute after boot and put them into sleep mode. They will not power up till needed.

All my PC's are set to "0" and run constantly...This is so the hard drives don't start up and turn off all the time. This means less stress on the Hard Drives.
