Bootable USB
#1
Hi Guys,

I have a question about Bootable USB keys. After watching a tutorial of how to create a bootable USB I created one for my computer which seems to work ok except for the create or delete partition at the beginning. Works fine from DVD I can delete my original partition and re-install fresh no problem but not from a USB. My question is it impossible to delete partitions from a bootable USB key or is something to do with my particular setup.  Confused

Cheers,

Is your thumb drive lockable?
Try to simply formating the drive before creating the disk

Hi Timster,
I have a Win 10 DVD as well and used that for the the formatting and fresh install so not a big problem but I am curious why bootable USB will not work on my system. I have tried Comptons suggestion and will try again when I next re-install. Thanks for your suggestion.

How old is your computer? Some older computers do not support booting from usb flash drive.

It's five years old August just gone so that may well be the case. Not knowledgeable enough to find out I'm afraid so have to wait for next re-install. If it fails next time will admit defeat and stick with DVD.  Sad

It does not have a model number. I had it put together by a company called Overclockers UK about five years ago. The specs are listed below if that's any help.

A program called Rufus and a Microsoft one whose name I forget both completed the bootable USB ok on two different USB's and both were unable to format SSD for fresh install. Hoping the zeroing of USB is the answer but not able to try it at the moment. It's not a major problem just puzzled why it did not work.
