NAS 2TB Hard Drive only showing 111GB
#1
Hi,

I accessed my NAS HDD a 2 TB drive and noticed it was only showing 111 GB and it was exactly mirroring my SSD, the totals were exactly the same.
The content wasn't and also some of my content is missing!!

I could run the NAS installer again to get my drive back but is there another way and why has this happened, anyone know.

I'm running Windows 10 pro 64 bit, it's the upgrade and not a clean install.

My system is an AMD Quad Core, ASUS MB and 16 GB ram, 120 GB SSD and some back up drives, a GTX 650 GPU.
It's used for editing RAW photo files in photoshop.

This info may not be relevant but I have seen some ask.

Any help or ideas on this would be groovy.

I am not sure if I am reading you're question right, but 111GB is the actual space of you're 120GB SSD. You wont get the full 120GB and 111GB of 120GB sound about the right size.

Example:

My NAS drive is 2000 GB but it's showing 111 GB the exact same as my SSD.
Interestingly I booted a mac and the NAS is showing correct on that so I'm thinking it must be Windows 10, perhaps it's corrupt. I tried disconnecting the NAS and then remapping but it makes no difference, I have another Windows 10 PC so will try that in a minute.

I didn't know how to insert a screenshot sa have attached a pdf... the NAS drive is the network drive and it should be showing up as 2000 GB.

I couldn't fix the issue other than to install the NAS software again, I lost my backup but it is a backup of another backup drive so no worries there.

The newly formatted NAS is now seen.

The old network drive won't go away though, it's still showing in my list of drives.

I noticed the MAC powerpc G5 detected the NAS no problem
But my other windows 10 computers wouldn't
I don't have any Windows 7 computers anymore so couldn't try that.

If you want to remove the old mapped network drive, right click mapped drive and select delete.

Since posting the comments, I've shut the computer down and rebooted, the BAD NAS has disappeared.

I've put new drives in the NAS, in raid 0.

It was a pain though because I had to format the NAS drive.
I tested it with crystaldiskinfo and it's coming as good so no issues with the disk or the NAS.

What do you reckon, a Windows 10 teething problem because all 3 of the Windows 10 machines reported the same issue yet the mac powerpc didn't. It could access the whole drive.

Hope it doesn't start playing up again!

Anyway, thanks for your comments and help .. Smile Smile Smile

It could be a Windows 10 issue. But it could also be other reasons.

Is the issue now resolved?

I think so Brian, I lost all the data on the 2 TB NAS drive, I had backed up on a drive in the computer, the NAS was for easy access on other devices, round the house.
A bit of a pain but I resolved by running the NAS software again and putting in new drives, not how I would have liked to have done it but not the end of the world.

I would say it's resolved after a fashion, thanks.
