HP Compaq dc7800 Small Form Factor PC


follow my step in the order I have  it

Step 1 remove the access panel.

Step 2
Remove the front bezel


then follow this  System fan assembly

then after cleaning system fan which is the intake fan make sure the fan is blowing air in

before replacing it


remove the CPU fan  clean the cpu fan


apply Thermal paste before  replacing cpu fan



Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound, 3.5 Grams

The Core 2 brand was introduced on 27 July 2006. Its a super old processor now days. Linux run real well on Core 2 Duo. 
It seems to me its just wear and tear and the hardware has done its job for many years and its now coming to the end of its life span. Its not worth throwing money at it. 
Linux would run better on that system.

You could try one of these if you have the ventilation on the bottom of the laptop. Not everyone likes them, but they do work pretty well.

yes i have laptop cooler for my laptop but it's different kind

Just don't use Meths to clean the Thermal paste off.

And that is overkill on the Thermal paste and no ESD strap??? He got lucky.

yes I would say its over kill on Thermal paste one little dot on the cpu should work

on the ESD yes you should wear a ESD strap but you can get off without wearing a ESD strap once you touch a metal part on

the case before touching a system components you should me ok
