Black Screen Of Death
#1
Hi Brian or someone can point me in right direction.

I have an Asus R290 Graphics Card that had devloped 2 Previous faults and I sent it back to Ebuyer in which they then sent it back to the manufacturer for replacment.

The first time I had heat issues, the next time where I had a bsod and rebooted and the display was messed up.

So that's the second time it went back, I duly had it back from ebuyer yesterday, installed it and the drivers and was back up and running, where I've now ran into another snag, during usage I get a black screen of death (Display turns off) and reboots! - I checked all the cables, re-installed the drivers all OK there, but this is annoying. on another forum on this matter they claim it's my PSU has gone bad? It's a Corsair 650 watt PSU , and for the past month or so I was using 6870 with no issues.

Any ideas on what this could be please?

Cheers
Rob

Sounds like you have just had a bad bit of luck with this card.

-What are the temps running at now at idle and under load?

-Was this card purchased new or refurbished/open box?

-Did you uninstall the original video drivers from your 6870 before installing the r290?

-Do you get the black screen while gaming or does it go black randomly?

Hiya,

I can't remember of hand what the temps where.
This was a brand new card from Ebuyer, all drivers where uninstalled before installing the r290 the black screen senario happens randomly.

I actually had a r280 come through my shop that was doing the exact same thing. Turns out a RMA for another card fixed that problem. For you to have issues with 2 of them is indeed reason to think something else is wrong with your system however if your system is playing nice with that 6870 then I would say your system is not to blame. Your power supply will suffice with that r290.

I am very annoyed can Brian or someone knowledable help me?

I had an email back from Ebuyer to say:

"The damage caused to your returned goods is not covered by warranty. The goods will be returned with no further action"

What!!!!! Angry Sad

I got on the Phone to them and told them but they wouldn't budge and they claim there was damage done to the Heat Pipe, and they had sent me photos, and I don't remember seeing/noticing any damage on the card: - What do you think?

In conversation with ebuyer "The damage to the item is that the heat pipe is bent. When we first had the card back it was not damaged in this way and if the item had of been damaged upon returning to you then this would have needed to have been reported at that time.

As this item is now damaged, it voids the warranty and we are unable to do anything further with it.

That is very irritating. I don't think there is much you can do other than ring them up again and complain. You do have some consumer rights though. Maybe this article could help: https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/action/how-to-get-a-faulty-product-replaced-or-repaired

Tell us how it goes. Thanks.

Cheers I will do this and will also speak to my bank to see if they can provide a charge back on my card as well.
