Windows 10 1151 Windows Update and Incompatible Programs.
#1
I eventually got update 1151 on to my pc via downloading the media creation tool again (it didnt show up on my windows update). One of the first things I noticed is how it give me a warning that it had removed 2 programs that weren't compatable since the update. Luckily for me they were 2 programs in an ASUS suite that I don't use. So it hasnt effected me.

I have three questions.

1. Why are programs that worked on windows 10 prior to the update now incompatible?

2. What as changed in Windows 10 so some programs can't run?

3. If I needed a program that was now removed and/or deemed incompatible, is there any workaround to get them working again?

Thanks.

There are a lot of known issues when upgrading to Windows 10 version 1511.

These are:
  • Graphics driver crashes, even if you have the latest drivers were installed.
  • Display driver stopped responding and has recovered.
  • People complain graphics driver settings get reset to defaults without prompting them first

  • Its also been reported that hardware stop working after update, they way to fix this issue will require the drivers to be reinstalled.
  • Some people have had a problem with Windows 10 version 1511 update and said that the new update replaces previously installed drivers with Windows default drivers after the upgrade to Windows 10 version 1511.
  • There has also been complaints from people about there previous settings getting reset or even lost after they upgrade to Windows 10 version 1511.
  • The "Documents" folder location gets redirected to OneDrive, and when you try to fix the issue and restore to the "Default Documents Location" drive will not work and kicks up a error.

So as you can see, there are many types of issues with this update, remember the golden rule of computing? backup, backup, backup.
Its always advisable to make a full backup of the computer if you make major changes to the operating system.

In my opinion stay away from Windows 10 until it becomes bug free, Microsoft released this version of Windows far to early and are using users like us as guinea pigs to report bugs to them. But at what cost? non to Microsoft, just giving users a nightmare of troubles to solve by them selves. I am still using Windows 7 and Linux on my main rig and wont be upgrading anytime soon.

I have seen a major upswing in computers coming into my shop that have flat out crashed after being updated to Windows 10. I have also had complaints of people stating that their computer was upgraded to Windows 10 without them agreeing to be upgraded.

Unfortunately I upgraded to windows 10, then did the recent update to.

I've just noticed another program, Audacity doesn't recognise any of my audio devices.

I have a question for you guys. I upgraded from Win7 Pro 64bit to Win10 Pro 64bit. When these sites are saying to update to the latest drivers, which drivers should I install from the manufacturers site if they don't have a Win10 driver? Do I install Win7 drivers, Win8 or Win8.1 drivers?

That's the problem with Windows 10 right now, a lot of users are having big trouble and can't fix issue that Microsoft have created. Roll back to a older version of Windows until Windows 10 is stable, or skip Windows 10 altogether.
