The resultant file is called MTB and is attached again.

The file is on my desktop.

I feel we’re getting close and I’m stuck!

I’m at https://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/19/article/Product-Support/Self-support-Knowledgebase/software-and-downloads/drivers-and-downloads/drivers-help the link attached to your link 690/drivers.

It is a Dell Product Support page for the Precision 690. On that page I cannot find the Image(s) you provided for the Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Controller and 59XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller Driver, etc. Nor can I find any links to actually download drivers. (It seems the page is intended to be accessed by someone with a Dell Precision, on the Internet.) In other words, unless my Dell Precision is on the Internet, this page cannot do a system analysis and allow me to install the drivers I need. (a Catch 22!)

Even if I were to be able to find the area you picture, it seems that “This file will automatically self-install after downloading.”  Since I would be accessing it from my Win7 Pro (self built, not Dell) computer I would not want it to automatically self-install since I’m not having any problems with this computer (the one that I’m talking to you now with).

Also, I suspect I need more drivers since “Other Devices” Ethernet Controller, PCI device, SM Bus Controller, Video Controller (VGA compatible) all need drivers installed.

By the way, the only reason I want to get onto the Internet on my reformatted XP is to download and run Belarc Advisor so that I can figure out if I can INSTALL WIN 7 on that computer.

What am I thinking wrong?

ok you will need a flash drive so you can copy over the Ethernet driver

then install it on windows XP

I can download the driver on my end from the website that

I give to you

select network 5 files

Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Controller and 59XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller Driver

select download

All five drivers files under “Network” downloaded, placed on a thumb drive, and transferred to problem machine.

Ran Dell multi-device_A17_R174291 (the first and largest of the driver.exes)
File was uncompressed, and an install was attempted.

Result: “No compatible hardware found. The software you are attempting to install is not supported on this system. The software will not be installed. Setup will now exit.”

p.s. Do I have to recheck Thread Subscription "Subscribe and receive email notification of new replies" every time I post a result?

R138111 install worked (at least something worked!)
R11605 seems to have installed.
The two others seem to have installed.

Browser works only enough to tell me my Internet Explorer is out of date but any attempt I make to use Google or Yahoo to get a later version results in a “The page cannot be displayed” message.

Closed and reopened Internet Explorer. It seems http://www.msn.com is the only site I can get! I can even successfully load links from this site. But NOTHING ELSE.  It's hard to know where I am. (not to mention the very sluggy window movement and horrible screen resolution)

download google chrome and Firefox on to flash drive then install it

I think firefox and google chrome stop supporting windows XP

you would have to find a version that support windows XP

you can also try this https://briteccomputers.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=7

you can try this also ninite https://ninite.com/
