Updated Win10 to 1151
#1
Ok, so this morning I noticed the windows update 1151.

I decided to do the update. It all went smoothly.

I came back to the windows desktop and noticed some of my shortcuts had disappeared.

I find out that there seems to be a Windows.old directory on the C drive (SSD).

I have 2 questions.

1. Can I delete this Windows.old directory?

2. Some programs I had trouble reinstalling. Mainly the asus suite 3 program. I'm wondering if I can delete (or maybe change the directory name) of Windows.old directory it might allow me to reinstall it properly?

I keep getting: The system cannot find the file specified. Program ID not found "AsusFanControlService.FanControlManager"

When I click ok, the box just goes away and nothing loads up.

I am installing this program to the C drive, so there shouldnt be any issues really. It's annoying how this 1151 update messed up the file links.

Sighs.. I think ive messed something up.

I uninstalled the asus 3 suite (it was me that had installed it).. to try and reinstall the fan control thing. When I booted it back up, now its saying my SLI configuration as been changed / disabled. Yet in the Nvidia control panal Sli Disabled isnt selected.

I have a feeling I've messed this computer up somehow Sad

Thanks for the link.

The biggest issue as been it losings file/shortcut links, mainly the shortcut links. I noticed that the directory setup wasn't the same comparing the Windows.old directory to the 'new' directory layout. It left a lot of broken links. The reason I had the asus suite issues was because it didnt copy over the fan control directory at all. I wonder why it doesnt copy things over properly?

I checked that SLI was enabled by using GPU-Z. I'm thankful there are little programs like that around.

things can go wrong when doing a major update

do you have more then one hard drive in system
what can happen windows sometime copy over stuff to the 2 hard drive

what I would do is to create a system image before upgrading

because windows 10 have many more bugs to work out

I'll look in to doing that next time. I did a system restore point. But after I noticed it didn't recognise the point. It only recognised a restore point I did after the update
