Don't know if this is helpful, but I had similar experience on Win 7 Home when I copied and pasted some image files to the drive with Win 10 insider Preview (dual boot) Nothing showing in MARW quarantine nor did I lose explore.exe function. It only happened once for me. If it's recurring it might be best to ask in Malwarebytes forum.

Slightly OT re: remediation/second opinion scanners. I've found MBAM gets shut down by certain malware and Zemana Anti-malware seems not to be targeted and be quite efficient I realize there have been some criticism of Zemana for a number of reasons but at the end of the day it seems best to use what works.
