After clean installation of Windows 8.1 BCD is missing some required information
#1
Hi, I have Pre Built Vanquish Elite 3 Gaming PC bought from PC Specialist. It came preinstalled with Windows 10 Home 64bit, however, I prefered Windows 8.1 from the past so from the guy who helped me bought it, said that it was possible to downgrade in the future.

Before downgarding my system I made a system image using macrium reflect. Then i booted my system using a windows 8.1 usb ( using microsoft's official media creation tool). and after entering my product key, I deleted all the windows partition and clicked next. note I have two HDD'S, one 240gb SSD AND ONE NORMAIL 1TB HDD, windows is installed on the ssd. After it completed copying the files, getting the files ready and installing updates and files, my system reboted. Then the error message above appeared, after that I quickly restored my system back to Windows 10 Home.

After that I found a solution. It seems by running the setup.exe from the Windows 8.1 usb and selecting the keep nothing and disabling my antivirus, windows 8.1 installed sucessfully with no problems. But I want to find out why I can install windows 8.1 from the  desktop and not from booting the system from the windows 8.1 installation media. It just doesn't make sense.

The hardware specs about my computer will be in a pdf file

also this computer is brand new, got it on april the 4th 2016 and I spoke to the manufacture and he said downgarding would not be possible. Proved him worong !

Thanks

Thank you Brian for your reply, I will try to do a clean installation of windows 8.1 again and if the bcd is missing some required information error comes again, I will follow the steps in the post to try and fix it. I will have to try this method after the following week becuase my week is packed up.

Can someone explain to me why I can perform a clean installation of Windows 10 successfully with no problems by booting my system to the Windows 10 Disc and why I can't with Windows 8.1, it doesn't make sense. The only way to install Windows 8.1 for some reason, is to install it when the operating system is loaded up.
