windows installer the feature you are trying to use is on a network
#1
I'm not sure what this is but I think its part of Windows.

During some issues I had early on with Win10, I ended up moving a game around and having the icon pointing in different locations. I did get everything working.

But they did some updates on the game client and I ran in to problems trying to update it.

So I thought ok I'll uninstall it.

I appear to have successfully uninstalled it. But when I come to try to install it again I am running in to a Windows Installer window.

I think this is something to do with windows. It's trying to find an installation package called setup.msi

This can't be part of the game as there is no file like that on the computer. Others have had this issue but nobody comes up with a solution. I'm wondering if its anything to do with this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/969052

If it is can someone explain to me in plain english how to restore these windows installer files? I am using win10 64bit, with an ssd as my os drive and a hdd storage drive.

Thanks guys.

Hi BowdonUK, welcome to forums!
Insert your Game Installation cd/DVD and then in windows installer,  click browse button and look for setup.msi by going to "My computer for windows 7". For Windows 8, 8.1 10 "This PC" and right click DVD/cd drive and click open. Then find setup.msi and open it and then click OK
Thanks

Windows uses .msi for the installation, maintenance, and removal of software. .msi is a API built into Windows and is needed when installing or uninstalling software. It sounds like the .msi is corrupt in Windows.

Try to run the Repair MSI (Windows Installer) from tweaking.com and see if that corrects your issue.

Great Suggestion Timster, I will keep that in mind for the future

I'll certanly try that.

I'm not having a go or anything here but early on when I got win10 I was watching the video about changing the default installation paths of apps and games that Brian made. I have a small ssd and bigger hdd and like a lot of people I was concerned about space on the ssd. So I followed the video about editing regedit and changing the default program files location do the d drive.

This worked great until it came to updating windows to version 1151. Updates stopped and I even had usb problems recognising anything I connected to USB. Windows apps store stopped loading up to.

In the time when this regedit appeared to work I had downloaded and installed a game called blade and soul. Even though I was selecting it to be installed on the bigger d drive, it also puts a loading directory on the c drive.

Because windows no longer updated and with the usb problems and apps problems I was considering to wipe this new computer i'd got and start again. Though in the end I decided to change the regedit paths back and use the media creation tool to once again update the windows to 1151. After doing this everything started to work again. App store started working. USB problems no longer existed and everything worked again.

Installing games and uninstalling games / apps worked fine.

Except this one game blade and soul that I had installed after changing the program files path. The problem now is the uninstaller won't work. I get that error and it asking me for the location of the setup.msi file. I can't see the file on either drive. It's a temp directory its looking for and I've looked on all drives. What's more annoying is that after manually trying to uninstall the program and even changing directory file names, if I try to run the installer it tries to remove the game and ends up looking for that setup file. I don't understand how its detecting a previous installation of the game.

As I say this issue only happens because I had installed the game during the period I'd changed the program files location in regedit.

It's a shame that instead of doing the regedit thing all I ended up doing, and this worked perfectly, was change settings->system->storage and set the save locations do D.

PS.

Out of interest does Britec people come out to fix computers?

Hi BowdonUK, I understand your concern, it can be really frustrating when a problem happens, I know, I have been in that situation countless times.

First try Timster's idea, then perform the following steps below:

It seems from the description you have provided us, that there may be leftover registry keys, so download CCleaner free from this link  https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download and install it on your computer. Then click "Run CCleaner" two times. After that, click the registry tab on the left side and click "Scan Issues", then click "Fix Selected Issues", yes to backup registry and then click fix or fix all depending on how many registry issues you have. Keep scanning and fixing registry issues unitill it says "No issues detected", then restart system.

Next you want to download Everything search from this link https://www.voidtools.com/ and download either 64bit or 32bit, download both if you are unsure, one of them will run. Once the program is loaded search for blade and soul and delete any folders or files you find. After that insert the Blade and Soul install CD and try to install your game again.

Let us know if that solves your problem.

Thanks

What was the program or game?

Try this:

Click Start>Run and type regedit

File Export, this will create a registry backup.
Next

Navigate to following location:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Installer/Products

Highlight Products folder and go edit> find

search for your program or game (example: skype) and that file will be highlighted

Now delete that folder what was related to your install error.

You should now be able to install that program or game.
