HDD showing up RAW in DSKMGT
#1
Good Day Everyone,

Have a hard drive from a software RAID 1 set up that would not boot under any circumstance. Took out the hot swappable drive and cloned the drive to a new 1TB WD drive. Tried to recover the data by imaging the drive using macrium.

Problem, the disk will not show up in Devices and Drives but, it does show up in DiskManagement. It is showing up RAW and the Disk 0 from the original computer is showing up with no file system. If we right click on the drive we get delete volume or properties. No method of assigning a drive.

Tried a few different techniques and software but no luck.

Would really like to image the disk, but worse case would like to just get the data from a few key files that did not backup. The cpu died during backup and data was not backed up.

Again, Any help is appreciated.

Thanks again

Use a Linux Live disc to access those files and back up the data to an external drive (or such) https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

If you want to re-use the drive by converting back to NTFS you can use Testdisk - https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
If you want to go through with this you may wish to use this method: https://html5.litten.com/updated-how-to-fix-external-disk-drive-suddenly-became-raw/ scroll down to find the Testdisk method.

Thanks for the fast response.

I used TestDisk and scanned the drive on the quick test it found the dell recovery partition but that was it. Should I continue to the deep scan to locate the rest. I wasnt sure if it was a hopeless cause at that point.

Thanks again..

Yes go for a deep scan, you may wish to try the linux live disc first to extract the data unless you're able to do it through the testdisk itself.

Ok, I decided I will try that after the ubuntu disk..

So I have Ubuntu loaded and it is not locating the troubled disk that is plugged into the sata 2 port. Again, it shows in the diskmanagement tool.

Did I miss a step.

Thanks

Sorry Mike been busy. If you follow the method in my previous post you can convert the drive back to NTFS by creating a new partition.
