The key didn't give me the error, it was after that, I don't know what happened, I am having trouble with the cd/dvd drive since i got this laptop so i have ordered a usb flash, I think Britec is right about the Fresh install but I can't find a tutorial for beginners on youtube, I can find plenty for the people that are already technical but not one for learners, I don't know about Bios or booting, I don't seem to be the only one who needs a beginners guide.

How to download Windows 8.1 (For a OEM computer with UEFI firmware BIOS with a embedded Windows 8/8.1 product key.)

Note: Make sure you download the correct version of Windows 8.1.
Note: Make sure the version matches your UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1 product key.

How to clean install Windows 8.1 or (Clean install of Windows 8.1 with Pictures)

1. Start by Creating windows installation media for Windows 8.1
  • USB flash drive and DVD can be booted in both UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot mode.
  • USB flash drive and DVD 64-bit windows installation media are compatible with Secure Boot.
  • Normally, you do not need to change the UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings, for example, the boot order of drives, enable Legacy BIOS boot mode, enable Compatibility Support Module (CSM), or disable Secure Boot.

  • Connect your USB flash drive or Insert your DVD.
  • Shut down your laptop.
  • Press the NOVO button. The system loads boot options.
  • Select the BOOT MENU option.
  • Select your USB/DVD from the boot menu.

Hi Lynnne,

What is the manufacturer and model of your computer?

You may need to disable secure and switch UEFI to MBR (Legacy Boot Mode)

Since you have an Acer, you do not need to worry about a Nova Button since that is for Lenovo Models only. Please watch the video I provided in my last post created by Brian on how to disable secure boot. Also Watch this video on how to Change to UEFI to Legacy Boot Mode on a acer:
