How to use WSUS Offline Update to Download Windows Updates Manually and Install them
#1
When it comes to installing Windows Updates, it can be a pain. Waiting for hours for Windows Update to check for updates, then waiting  for the updates to download, which can take forever  and on top of that waiting for the updates to be installed and configured. It is a nightmare! You probably ask yourself, is there is a quicker/better way to manually download them all and install them. Lucky for you there is!

There is an awesome program that runs from a folder called WSUS Offline Update. This program downloads all the latest Windows Updates from Microsoft's Windows Update Servers and saves them all into that folder. Once the program has downloaded all the updates and saved them, you can run UpdateInstaller.exe from the client folder inside that folder and it will install them for you and automatically reboot your system and make sure you are up to date and the best news, its free. With this Program, you can choose which Operating System you want to download updates for, you can include services pack, net framework and you can even download updates for Office!

In this Tutorial, I will show you how to download WSUS Offline Update, show you how to use the program to download and save updates into the folder and I will show you how use the program to automatically install all the updates. Before I begin, I would like to say a big thanks to Torsten Wittrock for creating this tool, this has saved me a lot of time when downloading and installing Windows updates and I am sure it will save you a lot of time as well.

Please note: The latest version of WSUS Offline Update only allows you to download and install updates for Windows Vista 7, 8.1, 10, Office, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016.

Lets Begin!

1. First, open up any browser and head over to https://download.wsusoffline.net/

2. Download the latest version of WSUS Offline Update under by clicking on the version number link under Most recent version. (in my case, I will click on the link, Version 10.8)

3. Extract the folder to a location where you can quickly find it and access it. In this example, I will be extracting it to the desktop but you can extract it anywhere you like. You can WinRAR/Windows or any other software to extract it.

4. Open the extracted folder 'wsusoffline' in the location you chose and double click on UpdateGenerator.exe

5. Tick the box for which ever operating system you want to download updates for. You can download all operating systems versions updates at the same time by ticking all boxes but keep in mind that more you select, the longer it takes. In this example I have ticked all the boxes. Then tick the boxes, Verify downloaded Updates, Include Service packs and C++ Runtime Libraries and .NET Frameworks. Once you have selected/ticked the Operating Systems/Options, click start to begin the process of the downloading the updates.

After you have clicked on start, You will see a cmd windows pop up

This screen will show your progress of the Updates being downloaded and saved. Like I said before this will take a while depending on how many operating systems you have selected to download updates and it also depends on your internet connection. Once the process finishes, a pop up should appear saying successfully downloaded/verified updates.

6. Close WSUS Offline Update Generator

We have just successfully downloaded and saved the Windows Updates for the Operating system into the wsusoffline folder. Now I will show you how to install those updates we have downloaded. Please make sure you have downloaded the correct updates for the correct operating system, if you downloaded updates for only a specific OS. If you have downloaded all the updates for all the versions of windows, then you don't need to worry.

1. Inside the wsusoffline folder, open the client folder.

2. Double click on UpdateInstaller.exe

say yes to the UAC (User Account Control)

3. Tick the following boxes:
Update C++Runtime Libraries
Install .Net Framework 35
Install Management Framework 5.0 (if applicable)
Automatic reboot and recall (when warning appears, yes to proceed)
and then select start to begin the installation process.

That's it! Your Windows Operating System is now updated with all latest important and security updates. If you followed the steps correctly, you have successfully downloaded windows updates for your operating system and installed them.

If you are a PC Repair Technician and you downloaded all updates for all versions of windows into the wusuoffline folder, you can copy that folder to a usb and go to every client computer and install the updates from the folder.
