#1
Dell dimension 5150

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.7 ST3120026AS 120GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive.

Hp f 272wm

8GB DDR3 1600-MHz PC12800 SODIMM CL11 Non-ECC Unbuffered 204 PIN Memory for Dell Latitude E6430s

Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9320325AS 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Notebook Hard Drive Bare Drive

Im looking to upgrade the ram in one of my machines and replace a couple hard drives
But i just want to be sure i wont have any compatibility issues and to make sure i dont have anything to worry about. I have the model numbers of both machines and underneath each model number are the parts or part im installing into them.

Thanks in advance Smile

The hard drive upgrade should be pretty straight forward. Where you want to be careful is adding RAM to OEM machines. In general you want to try and match the specs of the existing RAM to avoid possible incompatibility with the motherboard. If you are going to purchase new RAM I would run CPUZ and try and match all of the speeds, voltage and latency. If you just have some RAM just lying around and you want to give it a go then there is no harm in that.

Oh okay, with the ram i looked at the suggestions That were in the manual and then copy and pasted when i was searching but theres always a chance i missed something which is where i put you guys in the equation. Thanks again guys. Just another quick question is it okay if i use the brand white label and install those hard drives? Or would white label cause problems in either machines?

Where can i find out if this hard drive dimensions will fit my HP 15 F272wm because i want to say my hard drive space is like 7mm and this hard drive (WD-Blue-750GB-Mobile-9-50mm-Hard-Disk-Drive-5400-RPM-SATA-6Gb-s-2-5-Inch-WD7) is 9mm?

There is really no specific place to find that information. Use your best judgement. Take a close look at what is installed now and determine if a larger size drive will work. If you are still unsure, play it safe and swap the drive with one of the same physical size.

Hp 15 f272wm

8GB DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800 SODIMM 204 pin Sodimm Laptop Memory RAM

WESTERN DIGITAL WD5000LPVX-22V0TT0 500GB DCM: HHKTJAB 2.5 HARD DRIVE

And since i damaged my keyboard i also got a new one HP 15-f Series Genuine Keyboard 776778-001 708168-001 Frame!

As for the dell dimension 5150 i figured out it was a hardware issue that i was able to repair and didnt need upgrading.

So unless you guys want me to keep you updated i suppose we can close the thread.

Thank you all for your help

Thank you timster. When ive looked at ram settings with the software cpu z it says i have 2 ram slots for my hp 15 f272wm but hp recommends using 1? Can i instal my 8gb chip next to my 4gb chip and be alright or do i have to choose one or the other?
