MSN News App not working
#1
Using Windows 10 home OS I'm getting an error when attempting to open a video from the MSN app. All of the videos work fine in this app to the exception of when clicking on a "local" option which is when I get the error after clicking to view a local video.

Things I've tried:
I've convinced myself this is not a infection issue. I ran FARBAR, HITMANPRO, MALWARBYTES. I've also ran a couple of anti-root kits programs with no joy. I uninstalled and restarted and reinstalled the MSN app which brought no joy. I have restored the registry from a recent registry backup. same result.
I have restored the Windows 0S to a known good working windows same result.
I went to Internet Explorer and reset it. still no joy.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Perform SFC scan

Click 'Start' > Type cmd in the search field > Right-click the command prompt at the top of the list and select 'Run as Administrator'
Inside the command prompt, type sfc /scannow > Press 'Enter'
4. Reboot and test.

Using the SFC /scannow did not change the issue I'm having with the video failing to play properly. I still get the unable to open refresh now error message.

I'm able to open video using the MSN news app. It only fails when I'm in the "local news" inside of MSN app. asking for a video from a server being used by local news only. In the attachment I've sent it shows the local television channels on the top of the picture. As an example is when I click on KTVZ is when the error message occurs.

Whats the error message if any?
  • Try and Reset MSN app
  • Run Windows 10 App Troubleshooter from here.
  • Re-register Windows Store Apps
1. First Create a System Restore Point
2. Once done press Windows Key + Q, type powershell and select Windows PowerShell from the search results, right-click Windows PowerShell and choose Run as administrator.

Copy & Paste
Code:
Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

3. Restart computer once finished

Still no luck?

  1. Inside Search box, type powershell, make sure you run PowerShell as administrator
  2. Enter the following command and press Enter

    Code:
    Get-AppxPackage *bingweather* | Remove-AppxPackage
  3. Now, go to Windows Store, search for the MSN Weather, and install it.
  4. Reboot and see if that fix's your issue.

After a very frustrating day of downloading a new copy of Windows 10 reinstalling it with option to save nothing. After all updates were completed when going to the MSN News app I still have the same issue that being of course that the local news option will not permit me to see the local tv stations. Providing the error message asking if I wish to refresh the page. Image of the error message is found earlier in my posts regarding same issue. Is it possible that this is a known OS issue which is beyond my control?? Sorry for all the posts just getting a little frustrating. Thanks !
