MSI GT60 power issue
#1
Hi I have an MSI GT60, the battery does not charge when the machine is powered on but does charge when the machine is powered off.
the battery/charging light is flashing,
the machine will not power on with the battery removed,
the charger is tested and appears to be ok also the same with replacement charger,
I have tested voltage at DC jack pins on the main board and its reading 19.5v so I am assuming that the DC jack is not faulty it feels nice and firm not loose.
I downloaded MSI battery calibration tool and when I try to run it the software says that the charger is not connected.
any ideas Please Daniel

sounds like a bad power jack

can you post a link to the replacement charger

If you have tried a known good charger and you have tested proper voltage at motherboard level then I would say you may have a problem with the charging circuit itself. I would however think it is worth a shot to replace the battery and see how the charging issue responds. Batteries are relatively inexpensive.

Yeah like Tim said, changing the battery is a quick way to check, also they are not expensive.

If you know what you're doing, its possible to check voltage with a multimeter to see if there is power getting to the battery.

I will give that a go but not much hope the adapter is not showing in device manager.

Please order a replacement battery and see if that solves the issue. Also please can you take a snapshot of device manager: Take screenshot using Snipping Tool

the laptop should power on without the battery you said it will not power on without battery

which tells me the laptop charger is not giving enough power to turn on the laptop or

the power jack is not giving power to motherboard so that the laptop can be powered on

and the reason it would power on with the battery in is because its getting power from battery to be powered on

anyway replace the battery like britec and timster said let see what will happen

If it don't power on without the battery, then check power adapter and DC Jack.
