Does my computer support windows 7
#11
Thanks for that, Rec but I am absolutely sure that that his PC will work just fine with Windows 7. I don't see a reason why it won't.

Smirk, you may also run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor to see if your system is compatible with Windows 7

Vista drivers would be compatible with 7.

This guy upgraded is Dell Dimension 5150 to Windows 7 and works OK. (What you got to lose?) you can always put Linux on that old best and it will run like a champ.

Yeah Partha, I'm positive as well it will work but I just wanted to point it out as it is an important thing to know when he upgrading. I'm sure you would agree?

Smirk24 run the windows 7 upgrade advisor like Partha Suggested and I would also recommend you to download Snappy Driver Installer like I said in my last post, just so if you encounter any driver issues, you can use the program to install those missing drivers.

Kind Regards

How do I run the upgrade tool if its a just out of the package hard drive.

But as for snappy driver installer I downloaded the full one that you download with utorrent I also used wsus offline and put the updates on a usb

if you want to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor  a operating system must be install first

this how i would do it just install windows 7 after installation is completed go into device manager check to see if drivers are ok

if drivers are not ok then I would run snappy driver I would not run snappy before checking Device manager

because what can happen you can actually snap a driver meaning you can break it Big Grin

but in any case it should work out box or out of gate Big Grin

Great!!! Also, it is good news that you downloaded WSUS Offline Update, should save you loads of time Smile

Now here is the process of installing Windows 7

1. Before starting anything, if the hard drive has old windows on it, make sure you backup any important info before continuing.

2 Boot off your installation media (CD/DVD) And follow the prompts to install Windows 7 ( When you get to the custom install option, if it is an old window, delete all the partitions from the hard drive and click next on the unallocated space to proceed with the install. If it is a new hard drive, just click next on the unallocated space and proceed.

3. Once windows have restarted several times, enter a computer name and username and configure windows 7 how you want.

4. Once you are at the desktop, check device manager.
If there are no yellow exclamations, then your drivers are fine, leave it. If there are yellow exclamations, run Snappy Driver Installer.
If you are gaming, I would suggest you update your graphics card driver. Generally, I use snappy driver installer to update all the drivers on many different types of machines but it is up you.

5. Run WSUS Offline Update! After running it, go to windows update and double check that there are no more important updates available.

6. Go to ninite.com and download the common apps you use.

7 Download any other apps you use such as steam, adobe professional software i.e premier pro, stuff like that.

Wouldn't I need to install the 32 bit version if I only have 2 gb of ram? And I decided what the hey ill install Windows 8.1 instead. i couldn't find the sound driver for 8.1 even with snappy driver so I just installed the one on the support page from dell it seems to work fine but we'll see.

yes ifyou only have 2 GB memory it would be better to install a 32 bit version because it will take up less memory
