Inaccessible Boot Device Stop Code
#1
Hi Guys

I have a Samsung N130 netbook, its a few years old and was originally supplied with Win7. I upgraded it to Win10 last year. It's been running fine and fully updated as necessary. The only modification I have made is to increase the RAM from 1 to 2 GB.

A couple of days ago I was downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes, which then called for a restart. This is when I was greeted with the BSOD and the stop code "inaccessible Boot Device".

I can get to the recovery area either by waiting until automatic repairs have failed or by booting from a USB media creation download, which I made yesterday.
At c prompt, I can change the drive to D: and see all my files and so I'm hoping that this means the data is safe.

This is what I have tried so far:
1) Restore point (doh! it wasn't turned on)
2) Auto repair
3) Re-booting in all the different safe mode options, one by one
4) Running Scannow, SFC - finds no errors or fixes. Had to force unmount.

Not sure what else to try. I have data I'd like to recover such as itunes library, photos and word/excel documents. Fortunately, the emails are IMAP.

I did see an approach on another forum which implied installing Linux as a way of getting to my files.

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks for reading my post.

Max

As for the data you can boot up to mini xp in hirens boot disk if you have access to another computer connected to the internet and go into your system drive and copy your photos and etc to a usb device, dvd,cd or external drive

its sounds like a failing hard drive

if you have a external  Hard Drive Docking Station  you can check hard drive health

how to check your hard drive health status with crystal disk info

you can also recover the files yes you can use linux to recover the data or a windows PE iso

Thanks for your replies, I have briefly watched the video and haven't had time to check to see if the regback files are there or not.

The Hiren's tool idea looks interesting, how does this actually work?

Brilliant thanks!!! I'll give that a try. If I can get my stuff off the disk, I'll fresh install.

Pretty much as long as you can boot up from a disk rather its linux, mini xp or others you should be good to go. And if your careful you can plug your hard drive into a desktop computer as long as it supports sata and you make sure the computer being used is set to boot and your hard drive is not. Doing so you should see your hard drive shown up in my computer than just click on your hard drive and access the files you wish to copy to an external storage device and your set.

Notes: make sure the computer is off and unplugged from a wall outlet before tampering inside of a computer.

There are many ways that you can back up your info you just gotta find what works for you

Actually tried to install it on the flash drive at work to take it home, but I can't get passed the bad partition message when pressing install.
