Clock Fix (Windows Time off in Dual Boot)
#1
Hi,

I've been running Windows 7 and Window 10 in a dual boot since W10.10240 release. I have an issue with the Time being off when I switch OS's. I have tried all I can think of, but no luck.

Here's what I have done so far.

  1. 1. Added DWORD RealTimeIsUniversal enabled to registry:
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation. Right click anywhere in the right pane and hit New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it RealTimeIsUniversal, then double click on it and give it a value of 1. Reboot.)
    2. Set Windows Time service to Automatic / Started. (Both OS's)
    3. Changed Internet Time server to time.nist.gov. (Both OS's)
    4. Unsuccessful in running CMD/RunAsAdmin on commands:
    (w32tm /unregister
    w32tm /register
    net start w32time
    w32tm /resync)
    No Permissions?
    5. Removed Adobe Reader. (Never used it)
    6. Checked my computer battery. (swapped out for new one)
    7. Time / Date are correct in BIOS.

I am out of suggestions. Default settings don't work, and these tweaks don't work. Windows 10 jumps 4 hours ahead from normal, and Windows 7 jumps 4 hours behind normal time. It's the strangest most frustrating bug ever.

Help me Tom Cruise!

That is the fix that should work not sure why it's not working.

I did have Linux installed at least twice, but Grub hasn't insisted on any boot options so I don't think I need to wipe GRUB from the MBR.

I'm using EasyBCD for Dual Boot. For what it's worth.

Run Malwarebytes regularly. *STUMPED*

This dual boot issue has been going on since XP onwards and has never been fixed by MS. As far as I'm aware it's one of those SOL things that has no real lasting fix.

LOL... Don't I know it! I did manage to fix it once... but, I'm a "installaholic".. I'm always restoring image backups... so, I couldn't say when it was fixed. I think it was Windows 10.1511-10586.962. 1607 was a horrible experience, and 1703 has been stable, but buggy.

The search continues...

I'm guessing you're in the US as that tends to be the most problematic of the time zones (well North America anyway). There used to be a slightly more localised version of time.nist.gov depending where you were and I'm not sure if you can still change it but it was something like time-nw.nist.gov sometimes that solved it but don't get your hopes up.

Thanks GuiltySpark and Britec,

Yes, I'm in USA. Windows 7 has the NW option but Windows 10 doesn't. Unfortunately none of the clock settings fixes this. 10 goes 4 hours ahead, and 7 goes 4 hour behind. Stupidest bug I've ever seen.
