PC/Laptop Repair Tools and Hardware
#1
Big Grin
Hello everyone, I've recently just started up my own computer repair/ computer build business on the side of my day job hoping to one day build it up so my computer business becomes my day job.

I was just wondering what everyone else uses for the typical repairs such as virus removal software, the best software to use for any situation, diagnostics and must have tools etc? Just to get an idea or a heads up of which software, tips, and tricks I haven't come across yet. I use Emsisoft Anti-Malware, Malwarebytes and Glary Utilities for Windows and CleanMyMac 3 & Malwarebytes for Mac. I also just set up a USB full of the Malwarebytes etc software installs for when I'm round at a clients house setting up a new PC/ Laptop. Is there anyone who does the same? If so which programs to you carry around on the go with you?

If anyone has any cool tips and tricks for anything in this field that would be awesome, I love to find out and learn about new things.

I would not worry about software so much what you do need to know is how to fix computers and laptops.
  • Can you teardown a Laptop and put it back together with ease?
  • Can you diagnose computer/laptop problems?
  • Do you have any computer repair tools ie: software and hardware?
  • How much knowledge do you have? enough to charge people a proper price for computer repair work?
  • Buy yourself some only broken laptops and fix them, it's a good learning curve.
There is more to computer repair than

  1. Building Computers
  2. Malware Removal
Wiping a computer back to factory settings does not make you a tech. There is a lot to learn.

  1. Networking & WiFi
  2. Diagnosing & Troubleshooting ie: Windows Issue, Registry, Hardware, Software
  3. Backup & Restore
  4. Data Recovery
  5. Overclocking (Just in case someone wants their machine overclocked)
  6. Laptop Repair
  7. Malware Virus Removal
  8. Printers
  9. Servers
  10. PC/Laptop Maintenance
  11. Computer Builds
  12. CCTV (Optional )
  13. Home Theater Setup (Optional)
  14. Phone & Tablet repair (Optional)
  15. Linux & Mac (Optional)
I am sure there is more, let's know what sort of knowledge level you're at.

Yes, I can tear down laptops and put them back together, I'm pretty good at diagnosing problems. I do have my own tools and software I have picked up over the past couple of years. My knowledge can be improved as I haven't found time to go to college yet (but I do plan to) because of my day job so over the past few years I've learned a lot from local techs, online forums and by youtube videos and podcasts from YouTubers like Carey Holzman and yourself along with lots of others. The first laptop I did a few years ago was my own and I cleaned out the fans, re-applied thermal compound etc, and put it all back together and it fired up first time no issues so I have done practicing. I've built PC's, installed windows countless times, I have also used Combofix along with other software for virus removal so I don't just resort to reinstalling the OS I only use that as a very last resort. I'm just looking to learn as much as I can because I have so much passion for this business and until I get the time to go to college to learn much more about things such as networking, servers etc that's all I can do at the moment.

well  just going to name a few software that I think would be useful

  1. Linux live USB could  use if you can't boot into windows and need  data from hard
  2. Rescue Disk like Kaspersky could be useful if you can't boot  into in windows because of malware infection
  3. windows installation  with all windows version on it  7 8.1 10 this can be useful  if you need to reinstall

it's just a few but should be useful if you are fixing computers at  a client house
