Can you update xp without registration?

Back in the xp days did you need to fill out the registration section before you could install updates in xp?

Activating yes. But registration?

Not that I can remember but it was a loonnng time ago now.

The simple way to update Windows XP was to slipstream all the drivers and updates in the Windows XP ISO and then when you install it you will have the full updated version.

Sounds simple enough. Since i have an os disk with sp2 how would that work if i want to slip stream sp3 and the updates?
