IDE to AHCI
#1
Hi all,

SO we all know that connecting one hd from another one PC to another with different hardware is going to be trouble..

I have an older Windows 7 machine that I have CLONED the hd.
(I need it and all its software)

The new PC has different MB etc..

I went into the new PC bios, although it has an "AHCI" it will not change to IDE
Windows loads and gets stuck at Windows logo..then crashes into loop.

I am aware of the registry hack once ur in Windows but not there....

Any suggestions to get this cloned hd into a new PC would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey zINc,

You're going to have to create an image and merge it to the other system using one of the 2 suggested softwares that I have listed below. Your activation and programs will be lost any other way.

Acronis True Image has a feature that is called Universal Restore. This will allow you to restore an image of one PC to another PC with different hardware.

You can read about it here:
https://www.acronis.com/en-us/business/universal-restore/

Macrium Reflect also has a similar feature called Macrium ReDeploy...

ok, so what you are doing taking a hard drive from one computer and put it into next computer?

the problem  is the drivers are not  compatible with the other computer you are trying to boot the hard drive from

put  the hard drive back into A computer uninstall all drivers then  put into B computer

Moving hd from computer A to computer B (different hardware, different drivers)

I have had nightmare experience doing "Universal Restore" with Acronis.
In another project, "Acronis" help desk has been messing me around, sending them log files for 3 months and they still cant figure out
why thier software doesnt work. It may be great at backups, images etc but they certainly don't have the experience with new hardware drivers etc
to solve Restoring, what good is backup if u cant restore..

I removed all I could.
A pitty about "Paragon" looks good.
"it was a free tool offered by the Paragon Software company up until about 2010 when they started to adapt it into their paid programs only."

Soon as I boot up with "Paragon" boot device (or win7 CD)
when it hits the first screen, mouse and keyboard stop working.

Any idea? Bios config? thx (the mouse and keyboard plugged into USB 2 )
